22nd day of May 2018 cannot be easily forgotten by the Benue people especially the 4th dominant tribe of the nation “Tiv”. It was the day when two priest of the catholic diocese of Makurdi Frs. Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha were laid to rest at the Se Sugh Maria pilgrimage centre Ayati with their companions 17 parishioners of Ayar Mbalom in Gwer-east local government area of the state. These 19 christians were murdered by Fulani militia while celebrating mass.
This act has been going on since the beginning of this year. Benue people who are predominantly farmers are invaded by the pastoral Fulanis making visitors landlord and land owners refugees.
This burial attracted the entire world and the whole christian community in Nigeria especially catholic to stage a peaceful prayer protest beginning with masses concorrently with the time in Benue.
Those present on that day among others were: Over 30 Catholic Bishops, over 500 priests, other Religious and lay faithful too numerous to count. Others were the Vice President of the federal republic of Nigeria and some ministers, Distinguish senators and members of national assembly, the state governor and his entire cabinet and many more.
The call was “Enough is Enough”.
